With summer finally here it means lots of days at the beach, swimming in the pool, and tanning (or burning for me). I love all the summer activities so much, but I always get SO paranoid about my hair. I had a hair mishap a few years back (I will be doing a post on it soon) and ever since then, I have tried to take much better care of my hair. I have learned a few tricks for keeping my hair healthy in the summer and today I am sharing them all with you!
1. Keep your hair covered when possible.
Your hair can actually be affected by too much sun exposure. This can cause your hair to stop growing as quickly, cause more hair shedding, and of course, you can easily burn your scalp. When you’re and about, don’t forget a hat. Plus, a hat is the perfect accessory to any outfit, so it really is like a win win. 😉
2. Dampen your hair before swimming.
When you do this, your hair is less likely to absorb as much chlorine. Your hair is like a sponge, so if you fill it with clean water, it is less likely to get damage at the pool. Pretty nifty!
3. Deep condition your locks once a week.
I started getting serious about deep conditioning my hair about 2 years ago, and it has made a world of difference! I use Moroccan Oil Restorative Mask and I love the results! It is a bit pricy, but definitely worth it. When I think about my hair products I compare it to a pair of shoes. I am willing to spend a little more on a pair of shoes if I am going to wear them everyday. Same with hair products. Hair is your biggest accessory, it is definitely worth taking care of!
4. Limit using your hot styling tools.
This one is tough for me. I have the type of hair that isn’t straight or curly, just sort of weird and frizzy. This means, I feel like I always have to use some type of styling tool on it. However, I have definitely learned tricks to limit styling my hair to once or twice a week. I try to go about 4 – 5 days between washing my hair. This allows me to just style my hair on day 1 of my freshly washed hair. I also allow my hair to air dry. If you have to blow dry, try using a cool setting.
5. Drink lots of water.
Drinking water keeps your hair hydrated from the inside out. It also helps your hair get stronger, and be less prone to breakage.
